FirstService Residential Wraps Up Summer of Service

FirstService Residential finished our second Summer of Service strong by providing meals to families in need through Mobile School Pantry and teaming up with First Onsite for a beach clean up and brunch day!

FirstService Residential Springs Into Action for September’s Hunger Action Month

During September’s Hunger Action Month, the FirstService Residential South Region Marketing & Communications department, led by VP Lillian Guerrero, spent a day volunteering for Mobile School Pantry.

Mobile School Pantry’s mission is to provide nutritious, healthy grocery items to students and families at low-income schools throughout South Florida. The organization is guided by the belief that every student deserves to have access to sufficient and nutritious which is essential to their learning, growth and well-being. Providing students with healthy food options allows them to concentrate and learn and many experience higher self-esteem. The organization is committed to creating a future without hunger, believes food is crucial for the well-being and success of all community members, and is the foundation of a strong, vibrant society.

The mighty team of 10 quickly got to work unloading trucks and setting up a farmers market of fresh fruits, vegetables, bread, non-perishables and dairy products at a school cafeteria in a low-income Broward County neighborhood. Local families were invited to “shop” the free market, and the team assisted families in selecting their items. Additional responsibilities included ensuring all stations were well stocked and the market was dismantled and the area cleaned up at the end of the day.

For Lillian and her team, this day of service provided a rewarding experience where team members got to work together outside of the office building camaraderie while providing a valuable service to the local community.

After five hours of volunteering, they left with full hearts and well-nourished souls.

FirstService Residential and First Onsite team up to clean up Fort Lauderdale Beach

The threat of inclement weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the FirstService “MacDaddies” team and First Onsite when they joined together to beautify a local beach. During the family-friendly event, team members filled buckets with the litter that had been thoughtlessly discarded waste along Fort Lauderdale beach and  the surrounding picnic areas. These actions not only create a more pleasant experience for beach goers but also help reduce risks to animals and marine life that call the area home.

The group capped off a productive day with a lively brunch.

May Mokdad, event organizer, had this to share, “My team, the MacDaddies, from Garden Style/HOA out of Boca put together the MacDaddies Beach Cleanup sponsored by First Onsite, Best Roofing and Universal Fire. The event was held at Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park in Dania Beach and was open to FirstService employees and their family and friends. Although it rained the entire time, we couldn’t have imagined the event turning out any better. We picked up trash between the heavy rain periods and hung out under the pavilion with the kids playing and the adults sharing stories while we waited for the rain to let up and then we were back at it again.

It was so wonderful to spend time with the team outside of work and alongside their families and really connect while doing something great for the environment. I especially loved hearing the adults educate the young ones on why we don’t liter and how important it is to protect the environment. Even after the event was over, some of the team members stayed behind with their families and continued their journey picking up liter around the beach. I couldn’t be prouder!”
