Hearing from our team members about their Summer of Service activities is one of the highlights of summer. We are grateful to everyone who took the time to update us on their efforts to #FirstServeOthers this summer. Do you have a Social Purpose story to share? If so, we want to hear from you!

It was fun to support the local animal shelter, leave a nice review for a local company, promote a good friend’s small business on social media, write appreciation notes to co-workers, and be friendly to strangers. I wasn’t expecting their appreciative responses for the little acts of kindness that were honestly so easy to do. I planted trees with my mom in Texas at a butterfly garden, bought the person in the car behind me coffee at the Starbucks drive thru, donated blood, and donated books and clothes. I supported an awesome organization ‘Conscious Step’ who works with non profits toward sustainability and equality with the goal “wear what you believe in”. I sent my family cute themed socks, and they automatically donate to similar themed causes. The small things make a big difference and this Bingo game shed light on just how easy it is to spread positivity. I started out being competitive and ended feeling humbled and thankful, which is always a win in my book. I will continue the ‘pay it forward’ attitude and I’m proud to work for a company that promotes kindness.

I wanted to share a brief update on our recent Summer of Service event at the Humane Society of Broward County. Recently, a group of associates came together to make a difference in our local animal shelter. We assembled Kongs, litter boxes, cleaned kennels, and showed love to the animals. It was a truly rewarding experience. We also partnered with our local school system to run a school supply drive in the office and virtually. We collected about $1000 of school supplies!

Century Fire Protection

Submitted by: Yesica Mejia, Monitoring Coordinator

My name is Yesica, I am the monitoring coordinator for Century Fire Protection. I have tried to give back to the community in many different ways in my spare time. From volunteering for non profits like the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Gwinnet Habitat Restore and with Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity helping build homes. I have learned a lot from my experiences and I’m grateful to be apart of groups that help make differences in peoples lives. I donate items regularly to Goodwill, Restore and often to local moms in need of everyday baby items. Even the smallest efforts can go a long way to make a difference in the community so I am proud to have been able to give back.

This summer is no different than any other season for me. I try to be as kind and helpful as I can because that’s how I was raised. I didn’t get a bingo, but I filled in some kind acts that I did this season. The pictures are of me puppy sitting and babysitting for my sister, we have no parents and no in-laws nearby to help her through having her first baby and a full time job so I’m all she’s got. Working remotely while holding and caring for a baby has been a challenge but we tackle it together. Taking care of her large Doberman puppy while she runs errands with the baby is a big help to her as well.

First Onsite

I have given blood occasionally for years, and I work with ImpactLife here in Missouri. Last week, I tried my “arm” at donating platelets for the first time. I do this to honor my dad’s memory, who was a champion blood donor in his day. I’ve given whole blood and double red cell donations in the past, and I’ll continue to do so as long as my health allows. It’s such a simple way to truly make a difference. Our St. Louis branch of First Onsite hopes to schedule a blood drive, along with the help of our local chamber, very soon too!

We worked at the outdoor free farmer’s market and also unloaded the box truck, set up, and distributed produce, milk, eggs, meat, and nonperishable items as part of a volunteer day to help Nourish NJ. Nourish NJ is a charity organization, whose mission is to create lasting solutions to the problems of hunger, homelessness and poverty. In addition to serving 300-400 meals per day, 7 days a week, Nourish NJ, provides housing assistance, health, and social services 365 days a year in a warm, safe, and caring environment, free of charge, no questions asked.

Earlier this year we encouraged our team to donate to OneTreePlanted. Associates were able to choose where in the world they would like their tree planted. We are proud to share that for Earth Day we planted 120 trees!

This summer, I had an opportunity to volunteer at an event for Make-A-Wish Foundation. Wish Day at Evans Orchard brought together more than 500 community members to raise more than $40,000 for Make-A-Wish! Highlights of the day were seeing two wishes granted — a trip to Disney World for a little girl, and a souped up University of Kentucky themed golf cart for a teenage boy. Past Make-A-Wish wish recipients got to judge a doggie costume contest. Players from the UK baseball and football teams were on hand to greet fans and sign balls. I worked at the arts and crafts area where I got to help kids design and paint wooden star keepsakes. It was a great day for a wonderful cause!

I have had so much fun with this. The best part was making friends with residents of a nearby assisted living center. They look forward to seeing my pups on our daily evening walk.
