TLS Kicks Off Its Summer of Service with Environmental and Step Challenges

TLS launched its Summer of Service activities focused on wellness, sustainability, and community support. The team recently concluded a Step Challenge, collectively recording 5,705,416 steps. Adrianna Cartwright logged the highest step count at 613,006 steps, which averaged 20,453 steps per day. As the participant with the most steps, Adrianna designated a $1,000 donation to Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary in King City, Ontario. Dog Tales provides shelter, rehabilitation, and adoption services for various animals, including dogs, cats, and rabbits, both within Canada and internationally.

In July, TLS conducted an environmental challenge designed to encourage sustainable habits. The team used a themed Bingo Card with activities related to environmental care, encouraging participants to complete as many items as possible. The individual with the most completed activities was given the opportunity to select a charity for a CAD $1,000 donation.

Debbie Villeneuve was announced as the winner of the July challenge and chose CK Animal Rescue to receive the donation. CK Animal Rescue is a volunteer-run group focused on supporting abandoned and neglected animals. It operates programs such as Purple Leash, which offers temporary foster care during owner recovery or relocation, and Permanent Foster, which supports senior dogs difficult to place in permanent homes. All associated costs for these programs are covered by the organization.

Actions ranging from waste reduction to sharing environmentally friendly practices contributed to broader positive change, with team members from sister companies also participating in the Environmental Bingo Card challenge.

We received these Share Your Story Submissions about the challenge:

I’ve always been really passionate about volunteering and doing random acts of kindness. This bingo card was a lot of fun to be able to participate in. I’m glad my company is very active in helping our communities. That speaks measures, and I’m proud to be a part of it.

This is my favorite time of year. Volunteering. Learning something new about the environment is an ongoing experience for me as I am in the midst of putting a service activity together myself having to do with the environment and planting. Recycling has become a part of my everyday activity, after you do it for a while you don’t even need to think about it, it just becomes second nature. Something that I just learned recently was to unplug electronics when not in use. For example, phone charges. Even though your phone is not on the other end it still is using energy. At my second job, we have a great saying: “don’t pass it up pick it up.” If you see litter just pick it up and keep our little piece of the world safe and clean. The best way to remember my reusable bags for my shopping, is as soon as I empty the bags I put them right back into the car. Recipe I ate for dinner last night: tomatoes, feta cheese, Greek olives, cucumbers and chickpeas. This was an awesome summer dinner.

Bingo!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our Summer of Service. Remember, there are still lots of ways to get involved!
