Celebrating Inclusion and Practicing Allyship During Pride Month and Beyond

Each June, Pride Month offers an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, honor the progress that has been made, and reflect on the work that still remains to create spaces where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.

Pride Month is more than a celebration. It is also a reminder of the importance of belonging. For many LGBTQ+ individuals, bringing their full selves to work, to their communities, and to everyday life has not always been easy. Inclusion happens when people feel accepted not only during moments of celebration, but every day, in every interaction.

One of the most meaningful ways to support Pride Month is by being an ally. Allyship does not require having all the answers. It begins with listening, learning, and showing respect. It means speaking up when someone is treated unfairly, using inclusive language, respecting people’s names and pronouns, and creating an environment where differences are welcomed rather than merely tolerated.

Being an ally can also mean taking small, consistent actions. Learn about LGBTQ+ history and experiences. Avoid making assumptions about someone’s identity, family, or relationships. Support inclusive policies and practices. Make space for others to share their perspectives, while also respecting privacy. Sometimes, allyship is visible and vocal; other times, it is quiet, thoughtful, and deeply personal.

Most importantly, allyship is ongoing. Pride Month may take place in June, but inclusion is a year-round commitment. Every person plays a role in shaping a culture where colleagues, friends, and neighbors feel seen and supported.

This Pride Month, let us celebrate with purpose. Let us honor authenticity, encourage belonging, and continue building a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Because when people feel free to be themselves, we all become stronger.
