Planned Companies is proud to announce its first-ever donation drive in support of the First Night Kit Program, an initiative dedicated to providing essential items to children entering foster care as well as individuals transitioning into temporary housing.
This program serves people facing some of life’s most challenging moments. Each First Night Kit is filled with basic toiletries and comfort items, small essentials that can make a big difference during a difficult transition. Through this effort, Planned Companies aims to bring comfort, dignity, and hope to those starting a new chapter.
For many children entering foster care, the transition often happens suddenly and unexpectedly. Caseworkers frequently report that some children arrive with little more than the clothes they are wearing, leaving behind their familiar belongings, routines, and sense of security. In these emotionally overwhelming moments, having access to basic necessities can help restore a small sense of stability and dignity.
Similarly, individuals moving into temporary housing often face abrupt displacement, leaving them without everyday essentials that most of us take for granted. A simple kit filled with toiletries and comfort items can provide reassurance during a time that feels uncertain and unfamiliar. These First Night Kits are more than practical supplies—they are a message of compassion, reminding recipients that their community sees them, values them, and stands ready to support them.
“We chose to support this program because it provides immediate care and comfort to children and youth during one of the most vulnerable and challenging moments of their lives. At Planned Companies, we are committed to making a meaningful difference and helping create a supportive first step toward stability,” said Lisseth Montecinos, senior specialist, benefits and wellness. “This opportunity was brought to our attention by NJCares, an organization that partners with charities throughout the state. We are proud to already work with NJCares through our annual school supply drive each August, and we are excited to extend that partnership in support of this important cause.”
