FirstService Relief Fund Helps Recent Storm Victims Get Back on Their Feet

The FirstService Relief Fund continues to be a valuable resource for our team members facing personal financial hardships. Last year’s busy hurricane season impacted many of our team members whose homes were damaged by the storms, proving once again that unforeseen financial hardships can happen to any of us, at any moment.

Recent grant recipients shared their stories with us.

“I applied for the Relief Fund grant due to my home in Edgewater, FL had flooded due to the impacts of Hurricane Milton. My home had actually flooded 2 additional times before Hurricane Milton. It initially started 2 weeks before Hurricane Helene, with a standard afternoon rain shower. Water had begun to enter my home through the foundation, and quickly spread through the remainder of the house. In total, my home had recieved 3 inches of water intrusion. The losses suffered include: Drywall, Flooring, Appliances, all Furniture, Personal Items, Documents, etc.,” Recent Relief Fund Grant Recipient

“My home was flooded and all internal contents were lost in Hurricane Helene. We lost flooring, walls, cabinets, appliances, HVAC, Water Heater and all our personal belongings including living room furniture, bedroom furniture, kitchen small appliances, rugs, dining room table/chairs and clothes and towels. We were not able to live in our home for 4 weeks and had to get a rental home for all 4 of us plus our 3 dogs. The money we received from the Relief Fund Grant was enough to cover the expense of living in a rental home for the 4 weeks until we could get back into our home. Going through a devastating loss like this unthinkable, but knowing we had somewhere to go to get funds quickly to support our family was a relief. It took the extra pressure of not having anywhere to live off of our shoulders so we could focus on repairing our home,” Relief Fund Grant Recipient.

We are grateful to our grant recipients for sharing their stories with us. If you or a colleague are facing a financial hardship, we encourage you to check out the FirstService Relief Fund to see how it may be able to help you.
