FirstService Residential Volunteers Make a Pawsitive Impact at Broward County Humane Society

One of the highlights of Summer of Service for the FirstService Residential team in Dania Beach, FL is its annual service day at the Humane Society of Broward County.

Since 2020, the team has enthusiastically supported the work of the shelter, providing a volunteer opportunity for associates that always fills up fast.

During their recent volunteer day, the team prepared treats, built scratchers for the cattery, and power-washed crates to support the staff and animals in their care. The afternoon ended with play time, where associates met the most well-behaved pups waiting for adoption. One lucky dog found her forever home with our associate Melanie Terrel, who adopted her new pup, Koda!

“I volunteer at the Broward County Humane Society during Summer of Service because I get to combine my love for animals with the opportunity to build meaningful connections with coworkers who share the same passion for making a difference in the communities we serve,” said Jackie Drelick.

One of the volunteers extended the joy she felt that day by adopting Koda. Banking Coordinator – Treasury Melanie Terrell shared, “Who knew a day of volunteering would be so rewarding when all work was done, not only did my heart fill with satisfaction helping the animals that day, but it also filled up with a lifetime of love. I just could not leave Koda there, he came home with me and became one of our Brightstar 4-legged family members. Adopt, don’t buy. So many need your love. The Humane Society sends your new family member home with all shots, wellness checkups, a follow up visit at no charge to VCA animal hospital and a furry friend to love you for life. This was one of the best days I have had.”
