July 2019

Welcome to the summer edition of Spotlight, focused on Our Environment, one of the three pillars of our Social Purpose.

In this edition you’ll learn about energy benchmarking and why more and more municipalities are requiring building owners to benchmark their energy usage. Kelly Dougherty, director of energy management at FS Energy, shares how we are demonstrating leadership by educating our teams and clients about how they can reduce their energy consumption.

We are also highlighting some of the ways our teams demonstrate their commitment to Our Environment in very hands-on ways, in and outside of our offices.
And we are celebrating our companies throughout North America who joined together to support the #DaylightHour global social media campaign to raise awareness of energy conservation and wellness in workspaces.

We hope you enjoy – and always welcome suggestions on topics you would like to learn more about. Our next issue of Spotlight is focused on Our Community and will be published in October.

When you share activities in support of Our Environment on social media, please remember to use our #FirstServeOthers hashtag!

The greenhouse gas emissions associated with this energy use is approximately 40% of the nation’s total output. One of the most cost-effective ways to decrease overall energy use is to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. New York City, home to more than one million buildings — which account for 70% of all emissions — recently introduced a comprehensive collection of carbon reduction laws designed to do just that.
