Putting Safety First at California Closets

California Closets’ Hands-On Training Boosts Safety Preparedness for Fire and Active Shooter Situations

Knowing what to do in case of a fire is critical for survival. Many people have access to fire extinguishers but do not know how to use them. Since every second counts in a fire, preparing in advance increases the odds of survival.

To ensure the team members at California Closets manufacturing facilities in Michigan and Arizona are ready for such emergencies, 180 members from both facilities received annual fire extinguisher training. During the training, led by Pedro Chavez (EMC) and Davione Smith (WMC), participants got to see peers from all three shifts demonstrate proper use during the hands-on training.

“We listen to the feedback we receive in our NPS listening sessions and one idea that came up last year was that team members wanted to witness some hands-on training. What better way to show them how to properly use a fire extinguisher than by seeing one of their own using one. This helps them understand that it’s not a scary thing to use and they will be prepared if they ever need to,” said Pedro Chavez.

Another unfortunate reality in today’s world is the possibility of encountering an active shooter. During the company’s active shooter training, team members learned how to apply the run, hide, and fight principles and take necessary actions for survival.

We certainly hope to never find ourselves in such a scary situation, but it is important to know what tactics to take if we ever do,” said one participant.
