“I applied for a grant because Hurricane Beryl created a situation in which I was forced to spend household living expense funds on emergency evacuation preparation. This created a financial hardship. Even though the grant I requested and was awarded was small (less than $1000) being able to cover the costs of the expenses I incurred during Hurricane Beryl was a huge help to me. I am the sole caregiver for my 83-year-old mother and when Hurricane Beryl affected our county there was no other option besides boarding up our home and evacuating. The costs involved in that put a dent in my monthly budget and receiving a grant to cover those costs was extremely helpful and provided peace of mind. Knowing that this fund is available will continue to provide peace of mind and I hope that everyone who is eligible for it is aware that it’s an option for them.”
