FirstService Residential New York Embraces the Spirit of Summer of Service for Local Students

On Thursday, August 15th, members of the Applications Department volunteered their time to support NYC students as they head back to school.

Partnering with New York Cares, the team spent the day at the Salvation Army in Harlem, packing backpacks with essential school supplies. The event, aptly named “Support Packing Backpacks for NYC Students,” saw the team fill over 160 backpacks.

In addition to supplies, the team also designed fun bookmarks to add a personal touch. Team organizer Taqiyya Williams shared, “Our team worked together and filled 160+ backpacks with school supplies for young NYC students in preparation for the upcoming school year and designed some fun bookmarks for the students.” 

“We all left feeling great knowing that we contributed to such a great cause,” according to team organizer Taqiyya Williams.

This volunteer effort exemplifies the department’s commitment to giving back to the community and supporting education.

New York Emerging Leaders Team Gives Back to NYC Students

On Thursday, August 15th, the New York Emerging Leaders Team volunteered their time to support NYC students in need. Partnering with New York Cares, they headed to the Salvation Army in Harlem for a Summer of Service project. The team, consisting of Colleen Kelly, Yury Forde, Devin Lugones, Gavin Hubbard, and John Choi, spent several hours filling backpacks with essential school supplies. Their efforts contributed to a larger group of volunteers who packed over 2,000 backpacks, exceeding the organizer’s expectations by 500. Colleen Kelly shared, “It was a great way to have fun and give back with a great group of associates from various departments and teams.” This volunteer project highlights the Emerging Leaders’ commitment to community service and supporting education.

Accounts Receivable Team Packs a Punch for NYC Students

On Friday, August 16th, the Accounts Receivable Team swapped spreadsheets for school supplies, joining New York Cares’ annual backpack initiative at Harlem’s Salvation Army.

Kelly Keleman, Angel Polanco, and Mony Ahmed were part of a volunteer force that sorted, packed, and boxed over 19,000 backpacks filled with essential supplies for NYC students in need.

“It feels good to give back to the communities we grew up in,” shared Kelly. “Making friends and making a difference along the way!”

The team worked across various stations, packing backpacks, creating boxes, and even designing bookmarks for the students.
The atmosphere was electric, with music, singing, and dancing turning the event into a memorable bonding experience. As the last box was packed, the volunteers cheered, knowing they’d played a part in making a positive impact on the lives of NYC students.
