As part of Women’s History Month, associates in the FirstService Residential NYC office gathered for a hands-on session exploring visualization.
Senior Human Resources Coordinator Tara Carr organized and hosted a Vision Board Workshop designed to introduce associates to the practice of visualization and the practical benefits it can bring to both personal and professional growth. Tara developed a thoughtful presentation that walked participants through what visualization is, the research behind it, and how a vision board can serve as a simple tool for clarifying goals and staying motivated.
After the presentation, Tara guided the group through a brainstorming exercise before leading everyone step-by-step in creating their own digital vision boards. The room was filled with conversation and ideas as associates worked side-by-side—an experience that made space for reflection while also strengthening connections across the team. For Tara, the workshop was a natural extension of both her background and her own goal-setting practices.
“I majored in psychology in college, so the concept for this event was very much in my areas of interest and knowledge,” said Tara. “Visualization and vision boards are tools that I have personally used for years; I was excited for the opportunity to teach associates how to incorporate this practice into their lives.”
To close the workshop, participants were invited to share their boards with the group and talk through the meaning behind the images, words, and themes they chose. Seeing each other’s goals sparked thoughtful discussion and offered a chance to learn more about colleagues beyond day-to-day work. Afterward, the completed boards were printed and displayed in the office—turning the workshop into an ongoing source of inspiration. The experience left many associates feeling energized and supported.
“The Vision Board event was a meaningful and fun experience! It created space for us to reflect, set goals, and connect with each other. It was inspiring to see associates come together and support one another while focusing on our personal and professional growth,” said Alyssa Coleman, Sr. Director, Human Resources.
By creating space for goal-setting, well-being, and meaningful connection, Tara’s workshop supported our Social Purpose in a simple but powerful way. It encouraged associates to think intentionally about what matters most to them—and reinforced a culture where people feel supported, engaged, and empowered to grow. Here’s what a few participants shared after the session:
“Hearing colleagues share the insight behind their vision boards was enlightening—it gave perspective on where some people are in life and the journey/story behind where they wish to go,” said RSS Team Lead and workshop participant Tikia Mosley.
“I had a great time! It was fun seeing how everyone visualized their goals. It was also nice getting to know more colleagues that I don’t work with but always see around the office,” said Viah Salazar, Accounts Payable Coordinator.
Tara was kind enough to share the presentation she used for the workshop with us. Feel free to reach out if you would like to receive it! Socialpurpose@firstservice.com.
